(upbeat music) - The Light Up the Main Street event has been a tradition for Midvale residents since 1939, marking the start of the holiday season.
Midvale City Mayor Marcus Stevenson and Economic Development Manager Cody Hill are here to tell us about it.
Hi gentlemen, thanks for being here.
Let's start with you, Mayor.
Why don't you give us an overview of the event that's a longstanding tradition?
- Yeah, so since 1939, Midvale City has had this tradition where we put up a tree on our old city hall.
So this city hall served our city for a long time.
It's not our city hall anymore, but it's still a community space for us.
So we still put up the tree.
We're really trying to honor the history of Midvale's historic Main Street.
And so this year on December 9th from 6:00 to 9:00 PM we've got our Light Up Main Street event.
We're really excited to host our market where if you're looking for any unique and handcrafted items for friends or family, you can come check that out.
We'll also have tons of events for the whole family.
- Oh, that's great, okay.
And Cody, you are the man with all the details.
So give us some details.
What vendors will be there with all the great things we can buy for gifts?
- Absolutely, so we have a lot of events on Main Street, and this is probably one of my favorites.
It's just really cozy and it's a great atmosphere for families and couples to come and enjoy a night in just in this beautiful holiday season.
So there's fire pits along Main Street.
The city staff are passing out s'more kits for families and kids to make s'mores.
There's free hot cocoa, Santa is there, and of course Christmas carolers also.
- All right, and so the carolers are just folks from Midvale?
- So they're the King's Carolers.
They're a a local group, professional singers, and they're coming to enjoy the event with us and make it a great experience for everyone that comes.
- And I bet you get lots of people.
- We do, it's a great event.
You know, every year we're holding more and more events on Main Street and we just continue to see them grow.
This is a great event we're really proud of.
And again, focus of just having lots of things for the whole family to enjoy, where you can also mark off some gifts on your list while you're there.
- And we're always looking for that, aren't we?
It gets harder every year.
Anyway, well, sounds great.
You've got a lot going on, and thank you both so much for being here, thank you.
- Thanks for having us.
