Katy Jurado Wiki: Salary, Married, Wedding, Spouse, Family

Katy Jurado (born María Cristina Estela Marcela Jurado García; January 16, 1924 – July 5, 2002), was a Mexican actress who had a successful film career both in Mexico and in Hollywood.Jurado had already established herself as an actress in Mexico in the 1940s when she came to Hollywood, becoming a regular in Western films of the 1950s and 1960s. She worked with many Hollywood legends, including Gary Cooper in High Noon, Spencer Tracy in Broken Lance, and Marlon Brando in One-Eyed Jacks, and such respected directors as Fred Zinnemann (High Noon), Sam Peckinpah (Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid) and John Huston (Under the Volcano).Jurado made seventy-one films during her career. She became the first Latin American actress nominated for an Academy Award, as Best Supporting Actress for her work in 1954's Broken Lance, and was the first to win a Golden Globe Award in 1952. Like many Latin actors, she was typecast to play ethnic roles in American films. By contrast, she had a greater variety of roles in Mexican films; sometimes she also sang and danced.Jurado was one of several Mexican actresses to succeed in Hollywood. Others are Dolores del Río and Lupe Vélez.

#Quote
1Women can have a career, but the real career is to be a woman. It's beautiful to be a woman and give birth.
2But you can't always stay the same. I feel sorry for people who try to, though. One of the most beautiful things in life is to grow old with dignity. Those people - men and women - who clutch their youth, one day they are going to have to admit that they are not young anymore, and what will they do? You have to accept the different phases of your life and find the beauty in each one.
3I was born with a terrible temper, but this is the way of expressing myself. I flare up, but it goes quickly and I don't remember it long.
4But I am not afraid to play mothers. Some of these little girls are afraid to admit they are getting older. I am not afraid. You can't put your finger in the sun and stop time.
5[on High Noon (1952)] I am very proud to make this picture because I look and act like a Mexican - not imitation. Some Mexicans go to Hollywood and lose career in Mexico, because they play imitation. I don't want this to happen to me.
#Fact
1Only four years older than George Maharis, who played her son in A Covenant with Death.
2For High Noon (1952), she was the first of only 4 actresses to win the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress in a motion picture without receiving an Oscar nomination for the same performance. The other 3 are, in chronological order: Hermione Gingold in Gigi (1958), Karen Black in The Great Gatsby (1974) and Katharine Ross in Voyage of the Damned (1976).
3While filming Barrio de campeones (1981) she received word that her son Victor Hugo Velazquez had been killed in an auto accident in Montemorelos, Nuevo León.
4Was very good friends with Hollywood actors, Sammy Davis Jr., Burt Lancaster, John Wayne, Frank Sinatra, and Marlon Brando.
5At one time Frank Sinatra wanted to pursue a relationship with her, but she offered him to be friends instead.
6Paul Kohner (husband of Lupita Tovar) was her agent.
7Nicknamed husband Ernest Borgnine "Bullito", meaning "Little Bull".
8Mexican film star and singer Jorge Negrete was her godfather at her quinceañera.
9First Mexican actress to be nominated for an Academy Award. The second was Salma Hayek, in 2003.
10Was discovered by film director Budd Boetticher in 1951, when he saw her sitting in a bullfight arena while he was in Mexico filming the film, Bullfighter and the Lady (1951). He cast her in a small part immediately, though she did not know a word of English.
11Former husband Ernest Borgnine referred to her as "beautiful, but a tiger."
12Gained 22 pounds in 22 days to play the part of Annie Lightcloud in Stay Away, Joe (1968). Days before filming, she broke her foot and removed the cast prematurely, which explains her limp throughout the movie.
